Find Columbia County Traffic Court

Columbia County traffic court handles its cases in more than one place, so the ticket itself tells you where to go. Start with the issuing court printed on the citation. That court holds the record, sets the court date, and takes your payment or your contest. Non-criminal traffic citations and local ordinance matters stay with the municipal clerk, while circuit criminal-traffic cases may show up in the statewide case search. Check with the clerk if a hearing time changes. Keep in mind that court case records and state driver records are separate files, and one does not answer for the other.

Traffic Case Records in Columbia County

Three systems can hold a Columbia County traffic matter. A criminal-traffic case uses the CT code in circuit court and is searched through WCCA. Circuit forfeiture and traffic categories also belong with the Clerk of Circuit Court. Local ordinance and non-criminal traffic citations stay with Portage/Endeavor, Eastern Columbia County Joint Municipal Court, or Wisconsin Dells Municipal Court.

The issuing agency and court on the ticket determine the route. A circuit summary can list the charge, plea, court record events, settings, judgment, and payment status. A municipal clerk keeps the local citation file outside WCCA. Searching the wrong system may yield no result even though the citation is active.

Three Columbia County Traffic Systems

A CT case is criminal traffic and belongs to the Wisconsin Circuit Court, Columbia County. A circuit forfeiture may also be recorded in CCAP. Municipal courts handle city, village, or town ordinance matters and many non-criminal citations. Each file has its own clerk and case or citation identifier.

Columbia County Traffic Ticket Lookups

Read the court name, citation number, issuing community, and initial appearance date from the ticket. For a circuit case, use WCCA or the Wisconsin Courts payment search. For a municipal case, use that court's official page, vendor form, phone line, mail address, or counter.

  1. Identify the issuing court and copy the citation number exactly.
  2. Search WCCA for a circuit matter or use the municipal route printed on the ticket.
  3. ECCJMC's AllPaid form can use name, birth date, citation number, and initial appearance date.
  4. If no result appears, call or visit the issuing clerk instead of assuming the case is closed.
  5. Confirm the date, venue, response method, and amount with that court.

ECCJMC Columbia County Citation Fields

Eastern Columbia County Joint Municipal Court's AllPaid form uses pay location code 6569. It requires first name, last name, and date of birth. Middle name, citation number, and initial appearance date are optional search details. The court should be called when the vendor cannot find a match.

Traffic Court Dates in Columbia County

The citation's initial appearance date, time, and place control unless the municipal clerk confirms a change. For a circuit CT case, WCCA can show a scheduled event, location, branch, and later reset. Read the newest entry. If a date is close or conflicts with written notice, call the court.

ECCJMC Locations Can Trip Up Columbia County

Eastern Columbia County Joint Municipal Court serves several communities and uses more than one hearing site. The citation controls the venue. Its public Columbus calendar offers date-range, keyword, past-event, and calendar filters, but that calendar is not a full citation docket.

Call ECCJMC at 608-429-2323 when the site or date is unclear. Mail goes to P.O. Box 108, Wyocena, WI 53969. A broad calendar event cannot replace the individualized citation or a clerk's confirmation.

Paying a Ticket vs Fighting It

Follow the response choices and date issued by the correct court. Paying resolves the obligation through the listed channel. Contesting requires a not-guilty plea or appearance as directed. Portage accepts written pleas by email, fax, mail, or front drop box, and a not-guilty plea leads to a pretrial conference. ECCJMC offers a secure not-guilty form.

Paying the TicketContesting the Ticket
Use the court-approved payment route and keep confirmation.Enter a not-guilty plea or appear as directed.
Act by the initial appearance date when the court says payment replaces appearance.Meet the plea or appearance date printed on the citation.
Online, phone, mail, or counter options vary by court.Written, online, virtual, or in-person options vary by court.

Missed response date: Wisconsin Dells warns that no appearance, payment, or plea can lead to default judgment. Portage offers a reopen request, but costs may apply and reopening is not assured.

Columbia County Payment Channels

Circuit obligations may be paid at the county counter, by mail with check or money order, through AllPaid, through Wisconsin Courts, or by phone at 1-888-604-7888. Columbia County's AllPaid location code is 2026. A card convenience fee may apply. If the county has transferred a balance to collections, payment goes to the collection agency instead.

Portage/Endeavor requires a citation number for its online or phone payment. ECCJMC uses location code 6569. Wisconsin Dells links separately to city citation and parking payment services. These portals take payment; they do not replace the court's own case record or notice.

Two Records: Court File and Driver File

The court record documents the citation case. It can show the charge, plea, event history, judgment, payment, and disposition, and it is kept by the county or municipal clerk. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation separately keeps the state driver file, including license status and demerit information. The court does not control that DOT record.

Columbia County Citation Counts Need Context

Columbia County's 2024 financial report lists 6,735 sheriff citations. That is an operating count, not the number of traffic court cases and not a count of unique people. The official circuit caseload report separately tracks criminal traffic and forfeiture categories, while municipal courts maintain local citation dockets.

Do not use the sheriff total to predict whether one ticket appears in WCCA. Identify the issuing court first. The figure shows why several traffic record routes exist across Columbia County, but each citation still follows its own court and clerk.

Traffic Record Copy Fees

For a circuit traffic file, Columbia County lists photocopies at $1.25 per page, certification at $5 per document, and a $5 clerk search. Ask for a quote before a large request. Municipal copy charges were not uniformly published in the research, so contact the issuing municipal clerk rather than applying circuit fees to every ticket.

Portage Columbia County Plea Routes

Portage/Endeavor Municipal Court provides in-person and virtual initial appearances plus written plea routes. Its official instructions allow a written plea by email, fax, mail, or front drop box. The citation number is needed for online or phone payment.

A person who missed court may use the city's official reopen-request form and explain both the absence and the reason reopening is sought. The court may impose costs and need not grant the request. Direct clerk contact is the proper next step when the docket or payment status is uncertain.
